On November 30 of each year, the Day of Cities for Life - against the Death Penalty commemorates the first abolition of the death penalty in 1786 by the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. On this day, participating cities illuminate a symbolic monument like the Colosseum in Rome.
By this symbolic action, these cities demand a state of all executions worldwide.
This year "City for life, an initiative of the Community of Sant’Egidio, will be celebrated through a webinar that will see the participation of ICDP President Navi Pillay, alongside other respected personalities: Mr. Davide Sassoli, President the European Parliament; Mr. Mario Marazzitti, Community of Sant'Egidio; Ms. Sandra Babcock, Director and Founder of the Cornell Centre on the Death Penalty Worldwide; Ms. Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy, Executive Director of Catholic Mobilizing Network; Ms. Suzana Norlihan, Lawyer and Activist and Mr. Joaquin Martinez, former death row inmate exonerated.
