On 21 May 2024, the International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDP or Commission) celebrated a public event to launch the Spanish version of its report on Children, Youth, and the Death Penalty (Niños, Jóvenes y Pena de Muerte) at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEUEC).

Mr O´Flaherty´s intervention by a pre-recorded message highlights the position of the Council of Europe and his position on the issue of abolition of the death penalty. He also warmly appreciated the work of ICDP and its work in the area of abolition of the death penalty and proposed to work closely in our work.
Michael O’Flaherty (Ireland) is the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights. He assumed this office on 1 April 2024. Mr O’Flaherty has previously served as Director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, and previously as Professor of Human Rights Law and Director of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland, as Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee.
