On 2 January, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law to ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The President's signature affirmed the 29 December 2020 vote in the Parliament in favour of ratification of the Second Optional Protocol, making the country the 88th State Party to this Protocol. Earlier, Kazakhstan became a State Signatory to the Protocol on 23 September 2020. For further information, please find the press statement.
