ICDP warmly welcomes the adoption by Lebanon's Parliament of the law abolishing the death penalty for all crimes after 22 years without executions. The law, approved on 11 August by a broad majority of the 128-member Parliament, replaces capital punishment with life imprisonment with aggravated hard labour. It will enter into force once signed by the President and published in the Official Gazette and will become the 114thcountry to abolish the death penalty for all crimes. With this vote, Lebanon becomes the first country in the Middle East region to abolish the death penalty for all crimes.
