On 11 April 2011, the International Academic Network for the Abolition of the Death Penalty (REPECAP) and the International Society for Social Defence, Fondazione Centro Nazionale di prevenzione e difesa sociale organized a side event to present the most recent works of Academicsforabolition on the occasion of the twentieth session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, at the UNODC (United Nations of Drugs and Crimes) in Vienna. The Secretariat of the International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDP) participated in the event and was represented by Angélique Echtermeyer, Programme Officer to the Secretariat of the ICDP.
The President of the International Society of Social Defence Luis Arroyo Zapatero, presented the recent works by Academicsforabolition among which figure the book “Towards universal abolition of the death penalty”, co-eds Luis Arroyo Zapatero, Paloma Biglino Campos and William Schabas as well as a documentary “Still Killing”, concerning the death penalty.
In the context of the conference, the International Commission against the Death Penalty was presented, making special reference to the work that has been carried out since its establishment in October 2010.
Also participating were Jon York, Professor in Law at the University of Birmingham, Antonio Muñoz Aunion, Programme Director of Academicsforabolition, and Marta Muñoz de Morales Romero Researcher at the University of Castilla-la Mancha.
