The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) organized a High Level Panel Discussion on the Question of the Death Penalty, on the 5th of March 2014, from 15:00-18.00 hours at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. The High level Panel was convened by the Human Rights Council pursuant to its decision A/HRC/DEC/ 22/117, and organized by the OHCHR. The panel discussion aimed to the:
– Exchange views on advances, best practices and challenges relating to the abolition of the death penalty and to the introduction of a moratorium on executions; and
– Exchange views relating to national debates or processes on whether to abolish the death penalty.
ICDP was represented in the Panel by Commissioner Mrs Asma Jahangir, who discussed and exchange views on advances and challenges relating to the abolition of the death penalty and the introduction of a moratorium on executions in Asia.
