On 24th September 2012 Madagascar signed the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty.
Madagascar’s last execution was in 1958 and the country has supported UN General Assembly resolutions calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty.
